The owner of a California jewelry store fended off five armed robbery suspects after flashing his legally owned firearm, police said.

The man, identified by KTVU as Usman Bhatti, foiled the attempted robbery at his store in the Tanforan Mall in San Bruno around 1 p.m. on January 21.

Bhatti, who has a concealed carry permit, pulled out his gun after one of the men smashed through a shop window and then threatened him with a crowbar, police said.

After pointing the gun at the would-be thief and yelling at him to stop, the suspect armed with a crowbar fled to the food court, authorities said.

Another male suspect pulled out his own pistol and pointed it at Bhatti, police said.

The owner aimed his firearm at the armed suspect, who then fled with his remaining cohorts.

No shots were fired in the attempted robbery and no injuries were reported.

Bhatti told KTVU he had no choice but to pull out his gun.

“I’m not trying to be a hero or a macho…it happened really fast and I had no choice,” he told the outlet.
