The Milton Arts Guild’s Artful Touch Teaching Series will feature a crochet bead and thread jewelry making class from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16 at 310 Walnut St., Milton. Taught by Edilu Nehrbas, this course is designed for those looking to start a new hobby or business, or just let a creative side emerge. This beginner’s course will cover everything participants need to know to create a beautiful piece of bead and crochet wire. Participants will leave the class with a necklace or bracelet that they have made, as well as new skills for making more jewelry at home.
Wire jewelry expert Nehrbas will give instructions for using all tools and materials and then move on to making wire bracelets, necklaces and earrings using with a simple chain stitch, beads and flexible thread. Students will create beautiful pieces with endless possibilities for future creations.
The techniques covered in this course provide an excellent foundation for developing more advanced skills in wire jewelry. Participants will use a hook of their choice, H, I or J, 26 or 28 gauge wire (color of your choice) and beads of their choice. Previous crochet experience is not necessary. All materials are provided for this course, but participants can bring their own beads if they have specific colors in mind or wish to reuse vintage beads in a modern look.
A retired art teacher for the Cape Henlopen School District, Nehrbas teaches drawing, painting and jewelry making for Wilmington University at Rehoboth Beach. She also teaches printmaking and beading at Delaware Technical Community College.
