Miami Jewelry Store Owner Arrested Charged With Federal Fraud

ALKU jewelry store owner Santiago Mora has been tracked down and arrested by FBI agents in Miami, as Matt Dougherty first reported to KHOU.

According to court documents, Mora owed a company nearly $ 4 million for watches he never delivered. Mora also allegedly ripped off Houston residents for watches and engagement rings.

A person claiming to be a victim of Mora’s scams told Chron he bought a limited-edition Omega-branded watch in July 2019, which he says he never received. Other victims received great deals on jewelry requiring upfront payments, but customers apparently never received their pieces.

At one point, ALKU Jewelry was listed by Omega as an authorized dealer in the city of Houston. Customers were drawn to the jeweler because he told them he was able to source rare and bespoke pieces.

Court documents state that in addition to fraud, Mora is charged with theft and other fraudulent crimes in Fort Bend County.

Mora told KHOU via text message that he was not on the run and that he “was in the process of finalizing the finances… to take care of these issues”.
