Nanaimo RCMP are looking for a man following a jewelry store robbery

Nanaimo RCMP are looking to identify a man suspected of breaking into a jewelry store earlier this month.

According to police, the break-in happened around 5:36 a.m. on August 10 at the Gold and Silver Guy store located at 619 Townsite Rd.

Mounted police received a report of the break-in after the store owner arrived at work later that morning to find a small window was open on the south side of the building.

“The business was under alarm, but for unknown reasons the alarm did not go off,” Nanaimo RCMP said in a statement Wednesday.

Surveillance footage from the store shows a man inside the store grabbing several items, according to the RCMP.

Items stolen include several coins, an antique scale and several $2 bills. According to police, the man also attempted to open a storefront, but was unsuccessful and left.

Constables are now looking for the man, who is described as a white male in his early 20s.

Police say the man is “extremely thin” as the window he apparently entered is only 12 inches wide. He has short hair and wore a baggy jacket with lettering on the sleeves at the time. He also carried a small flashlight.

Police add that the business owner told investigators that two other men were seen outside the store about an hour before the burglary. The pair were seen shining flashlights in the jewelry store and wore bandanas over the lower half of their faces.

Anyone with information about the man or the incident is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2021-29882.
