Police searching two suspects took rings from jewelry store

MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) — Shelby Township police are looking for tips to help catch two suspects who were caught on camera snatching multiple diamond rings from a jewelry store.

Shelby Township Police Chief Pat Barnard said two men entered Sofia’s Jewelry at 49125 Schoenherr Rd on February 1 around 3:30 p.m. The two suspects asked the employees to see several exhibits. Once the jewelry was on the counter, one of the suspects grabbed the rings and ran away, followed closely by the second suspect.

The only suspect was able to steal five rings set with diamonds and precious stones.

The two suspects fled north on Schoenherr in a silver Mazda 4-door sedan that police believe may be a Mazda 3.

Police described the suspect who took the rings as a black male, between the ages of 17 and 25. He is taller with a slim build. He can be seen on camera wearing a black jacket or hooded shirt with STAR WARS written in white lettering across the chest. He also wore black sweatpants with beige Gucci slides and a beige or yellow backpack.

The second suspect was also described as a black male of the same age range. It is also taller with a slender frame. He wore a matching Nike sweatshirt and sweatpants with black tennis shoes. He wore a black baseball cap with white lettering that police said was unable to transcribe based on store footage.

Police remain hopeful someone in the community will be able to identify the men due to the “distinctive” qualities of the suspects who were caught on camera.

Barnard asked anyone with information about the suspects or if anyone has seen their vehicle to contact the Shelby Township Police Department at 586-731-2121 and press extension 3.
